MEET MJ BIVOUAC

Updated: January 02, 2010

I've been to the "Uncle Odie's" site off and on for a while now. But this is the first time I have seen the monthly contest area. So, Submitted for your approval, please find attached, a couple of drawings, by me, of a LOST IN SPACE Theme, that you might enjoy.

Both are drawn on 12" X 12" Canson Colored Art paper, and drawn with Prismacolor colored pencils. Both were done in December 2008. The ROBOT was based on my childhood perceptions of the robot, back when the show was originally on CBS. Needless to say, the ROBOT scared me when I first saw the show in 1965. The second drawing illustrates a "WHAT IF..." scenario with Don West, the Jupiter-2 and the Saticons. It grew out of my interest in classic paperback book cover art. If someone would like to write a story about this drawing, be my guest.

That's about it for the art, as for myself...I go by the pen name of Mogodore J. Bivouac. I have a Deviant Art page of a lot of my artwork: http://mjbivouac.deviantart.com/

I've been a fan of LOST IN SPACE since I was about 5 years old, and despite alot of the episodes being less than GREAT, I still enjoy it. I'm also interested in other science fiction TV shows and movies as well as animation, comic books, classic illustration, pin-up art, paperback book cover art, old toys, and model kits, etc.

I have worked in the field of motion picture special effects for the last 17 years. I have created movie props, models, puppets, make-up effects, and even done some animation effects and matte painting work. I also do commercial illustration, mural work, and graphic design. In all honesty, LOST IN SPACE was a BIG reason I got interested in special effects in the first place.

I almost forgot about this? You'll probably think it's cute. I did it as as sort of a joke for a LIS forum I was briefly involved with a few years ago. The forum was so family friendly, that I was not even able to post my Greg Jein Christmas Card with the LIS Robot and scantily clad Christmas babe. You couldn't see anything on her, but the idea alone was too much for them.

Anyway, we got to talking about LIS toys and stuff, and someone brought up the idea of a LIS PLAYSCHOOL-type set, so I whipped this up for the forum. One of these days I might take the art a bit further, but for right now, it is what it is.
