VOYAGE SEAVIEW DIORAMA (ALLEN B. URY) |
Updated: June 14, 2006
From the depths of the deep, dark sea comes one of the most fantastic
sci-fi vehicles of all time – the Seaview. From the mind of Irwin Allen
comes a classic adventure ship full of danger around every corner. Voyage
to the Bottom of the Sea™, originally a movie by Irwin Allen, debuted in
September 1964 on television.
Actors Richard Basehart and David Hedison joined the cast, while guest-stars
included Robert Duvall, Michael Ansara, and Victor Buono. The Seaview was
the ship used to travel great depths to visit the last frontier ... the sea.
In addition to Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Allen is synonymous with such
classic sci-fi movies and television programs, including Lost in Space and
Land of the Giants. In the 1970s, Irwin Allen was the "Master of Disaster" with
such landmark films as The Poseidon Adventure and The Towering Inferno. Now,
Polar Lights is bringing you the Seaview – a reproduction of the classic kit
from the 1960s. This all plastic assembly kit comes with a dimensional base
ocean floor.
This diorama was built by Allen B. Ury in 2004. Adding a Shyhook Flying Sub
for that final touch. I personally would have liked to see Polar Lights
creating a new ocean base for the mighty Seaview. I felt the original Aurora
base was to small for this kit, and really did very little to showcase this
classic kit. Maybe a few scuba divers, or a sea monster would have been great
for this submarine? You Voyage fans out there...send me your thoughts on this??
