Phase II was an unproduced television series, and sequel, based on the original Star Trek and created by Gene Roddenberry in 1977. Plans changed, however, when Paramount announced in 1978 that they would instead be going into production on a feature film, Star Trek: The Motion Picture. That film was released in 1979 and the rest, as they say, is history.
