PLANET OF THE APES ORIGINAL MUTANT MASK

Updated: May 27, 2013

Rare film prop used in the 1970 classic "Beneath the Planet of the Apes"! A molded mask worn by one of the "mutants" in the film. Mask was specially molded for actress/extra named Melina which is printed inside. It was split in the back to fit over the actress' head. Has some wear from age and use during filming. Outside of the mask is still a soft pliable foam latex. Some areas have some glue residue. Inner material is dry and brittle where it's exposed around mouth, eyes and opening in back.

There are small tears in the latex at the bottom edges on the neck. (See photos) It has been kept behind glass from a private collector for many years. Owner of Make-Up and Monsters, Brian Penikas has authenticated this item as an original prop from the film. Brian is also founder of Apemania, a traveling "Planet of the Apes" re-enactment troupe. He is an expert and historian on all things ape! This unique mask will be a great addition to any fan's collection.
