MONSTERS PHOTO GALLERY #3 |
Updated: November 24, 2007
No space adventure would be complete without an alien monster of the week. For Lost in Space, it was the "Pilot" that started Irwin Allen's trade mark. So Irwin's story came equipped with a forty-foot Cyclop giant. To bring him to life, an actor was filmed in a costume and then combined with other elements in the final footage. The creature was a bi-ped, with one eye on it's forehead that could move back and forth, multiple fingers and toes, and skin that looked like a cross between animal & vegetable. Giving it a truly mulated appearance. The man chosen to be inside the suit wasn't an actor, but was very accustomed to being called a giant. Lamar Lundy, the six foot six-inch, 260 pound defensive left end for the Los Angeles Rams football team, found himself tossing boulders instead of footballs in the strangest looking stadium he had ever seen.
To bring even more interest to Irwin's TV shows, and to increase the weekly ratings. Irwin recruited famous Hollywood stars during that time. Many of these "Aliens of the week" are still well known today. The monsters/aliens brought us all back each week for more excitement, drama, and fun. The parents got more of a thrill watching these shows, than the kids themselves.
