All-Terrain Chariot Filming Miniature with Interior Character Figures from Lost in Space ( CBS, 1965-1968 ). Vintage original model miniature of one of the most familiar and groundbreaking vehicles in Sci-Fi entertainment history. Constructed of metal, wood, cast resin, vacuum-formed plastic, and mixed-media components. Expertly assembled, painted, detailed, and finished to appear as the full-sized extraterrestrial all-terrain vehicle. The model features acrylic windowpanes surrounding the cab, giving a clear view of the interior, replete with driver instrument console, window curtains, six built-in seats and detailed, cast foam latex miniature figures of 6-seated characters in fabric cold weather parkas with fur collars. Embellished with meticulous detail including grill cage, ladders and other nuanced details. The remarkable model also retains its original rubber tires and the unique metal and rubber-gasket tank crawler tracks. This is a striking miniature of the full-sized, operational Chariot, which was based on a full-sized 1965 Snow Cat produced by Thiokol. The model retains its bubble dome and radar dish at the top front and a luggage rack in the top rear, replete with miniature steamer trunks and containers strapped in place. The undercarriage reveals an electric motor with chain-sprocket to drive the wheels/tracks ( electronics untested ). Two electrical cords extend 15" behind rear of vehicle. This spectacular model miniature measures 16" x 8" x 11" and was originally built for the pilot episode "No Place to Hide" and used in the dramatic whirlpool sequence. The model was later used for distance shots of the Chariot. Exhibiting expected age, production wear, and with some deterioration to track rubber, interior character figures, paint crazing and paint chipping. Comes with Irwin Allen's vintage display case measuring 32" x 17" x 19.25" exhibiting expected wear with tape on corners of base, blank foam core placard on left corner and two electrical wires and button at front center to connect to the model ( untested ). Acrylic cover has 4" crack with scuffing.
