The Robot was the grand prize of MTV's "Lost in Space" Sweepstakes held in early April 1998, and the Robot is being offered now by the sweepstakes winner. The following is the grand prize description from the sweepstakes' official rules: "'Lost In Space' Sweepstakes will award one (1) Grand Prize package. The Grand Prize Winner will be awarded the Robot from the movie 'Lost In Space". The Grand Prize package consists of: one (1) 600 pound Robot from the movie 'Lost In Space'. The Grand Prize Winner is responsible for all other expenses, including but not limited to assembly, other than set forth herein. The Robot will arrive unassembled and does not include the Sun Microsystems operating system, computer or monitor. The Robot is inoperable and is intended for promotional use only." The sweepstakes winner has kept the Robot in the crate in which it was delivered to him, in a climate-controlled environment, but has opened one side of the crate so that he could confirm it's contents. He has informed Guernsey's that the joint of the Robot's lower right arm appears to need a slight repair.
