The Jupiter-2 is one of the most popular spaceships ever designed. Irwin Allen wanted something from the art department that was simple but yet timeless. A flying saucer was perfect especially in the mid 1960's when sci-fi was taking off, and prior to Neil Armstrong landing on the moon in 1969. The Jupiter-2 remains a fan favorite.
