A 1:1 life size statue replicating Gort ( Lock Martin ) from Robert Wise's The Day the Earth Stood Still. Klaatu ( Michael Rennie ) landed on Earth with his robot companion, Gort, to warn humanity to change their aggressive ways or face dire consequences. Fred Barton was renowned for restoring the original Robby the Robot from Forbidden Planet ( 1956 ) and Robot B9 from Lost in Space ( 1965 to 1968 ), and has become well established amongst the collector community for his highly accurate replicas of famous film and television robots.
Having played a key role in one of the most important films in 1950s science fiction cinema, Gort remains one of the most recognizable and celebrated robots in the genre. The lovable robot was portrayed using a combination of the 7' 7" Martin in a costume and a static figure with a visor that opened up when Gort fired a beam of energy powerful enough to disintegrate an army tank.
Created using molds and templates taken from the original Gort figure, this replica features a full fiberglass body finished in brushed silver color, along with a matching detachable head equipped with simple electronics. The head moves, the visor raises, and the eye slot glows via a two button remote control powered through a plug extending from the back of the right foot. Additionally, the piece plays audio from the memorable scene where Gort first emerged from the spacecraft. It exhibits minor surface scratches in the finish. Dimensions ( Largest ): 40" x 23" x 90" ( 101.75 cm x 58.5 cm x 228.75 cm ).
Value: $15,000.
