An original ensemble worn by Anne Francis as Altaria Morbius in the Fred M. Wilcox science fiction film Forbidden Planet ( Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, 1956 ).

This ensemble is comprised of a one-piece gray silk jersey mini-dress with bronze-tone and silver-tone buttons and emblems hand-sewn and affixed throughout. A double-ended draw string with metal tips comes across the middle of the costume in order to tie it in place, as well as a zipper and metal fastener in the back. Some discoloration and material deterioration is present due to age. A handwritten label identifying the costume as for Francis is present.

This costume, along with many other costumes in the film, was designed by Walter Plunkett, known for his costume work on the epic feature, Gone With the Wind ( MGM, 1939 )

Altaria can be seen wearing this type of ensemble in the final climax of the film as she rushes to the Krell laboratory along with Commander John Adams (Leslie Nielsen) and her father Dr. Edward Morbius ( Walter Pidgeon ) to escape the invisible creature chasing after them.

Accompanied by two 8 x 10 black and white photographs of Francis wearing the costume in scenes from the film alongside Leslie Nielsen and Walter Pidgeon, including a photograph signed and inscribed by Francis.

Value: $2,000.
