BATMAN PROTOTYPE MOVIE ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER MR. FREEZE ROBE

Updated: August 20, 2023

An original prototype robe costume for the character “Mr. Freeze” played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the film Batman & Robin ( Warner Brothers, 1997 ).

Custom-made floor-length robe with a weighted train, the robe is composed of a metallic-blue-polyester-lurex and an outer shell of transparent molded plastic. The plastic appears to have been heated and molded to have conical shapes creating a rigid texture; the plastic has concentric circles top-stitching making the material appear faceted, similar to melting ice. The metallic blue fabric supplies an iridescent sheen underneath the plastic as well as enhances the plastic's sculpted texture. The jacket has a quilted shawl lapel and collar, and the rounded neckline goes down past the waist. There is an internal waistband to contour and tailor the robe along with gathering at the back that leads into a full-dramatic floor-length train. The cuffs have a diagonal diamond-shaped quilted pattern as well in a matching metallic blue fabric. The piping used on the collar, lapel, and cuffs is an unique molded plastic that is stuffed with blue batting and interfacing. Size or labels are not present.

Arnold Schwarzenegger plays "Doctor Victor Fries," a.k.a, "Mr. Freeze," who wants to freeze Gotham City, luckily Batman, played by George Clooney, and Robin, played by Chris O'Donnell, can stop a permanent winter from coming and taking hold of the city. Ingrid Ferrin and Robert Turturice did the costumes for the film. This was the second film the designers worked on together as they costumed Joel Schumacher's prior film, Batman Forever ( Warner Bros., 1995 ).

Value: $2,500.
