Please Note:

A wonderful service has archived most of the web pages on the web since 1996. Web pages that I thought were lost forever are available again. All archived pages listed are centered. All current pages are flush with the left margin. Please note that a lot of the links and images on the archived pages might not work. That is why I have listed them so they stand out.

Click here to see if your own favorite web pages are archived.

Special thanks to Alan Sippola for helping to find several of the following web pages.

It's been almost a year since I last updated this listing. Several web pages have disappeared, even from archive.org. Only a few new web pages have been added. But despite the losses, LOST IN SPACE is still very well represented on the web.

Attention webmasters! If you want your LOST IN SPACE web page listed here, please e mail me.

Essays

Observations on various elements of LOST IN SPACE.

Why People Hate Zachary Smith
"The guy in the above picture pisses people off. Of course, he's supposed to. He is the villain of the 1960s TV show, Lost in Space."

POD- Media/LOST IN SPACE
"For me, it has remained one of the most embarrassing science fiction series on television; the weekly exploits of the Robinson family and their futile attempts to return to Earth after their spaceship, the Jupiter 2, is sabotaged by Dr. Smith were filled with childish storylines and bad special effects."

Lost in the Past
"The opening titles are about to roll, the spaceship is about to take off for planets unknown, the mission control room is teeming with people, and the date appears on the screen in bold type. It is a year far, far in the future: 1997."

Allegorical Reflections and LIS
"Welcome to my unusual website: a unique combination of LIS fandom and of Christian faith."

Gay.Net's Hunks in Space: LOST IN SPACE
"Based loosely on the Swiss Family Robinson classic, Lost in Space, like Star Trek, only ran three seasons (1965-68), but like a fine wine, and through the magic of syndication, it gained in popularity only after being bottled."

On the Matter of the "Space Voucher" Hoax Hoax Hoax

Go to the link for Space Voucher Hoax. The introduction text reads: "For many years, a group of Lost in Space fans have falsely claimed that a lost episode called "Space Voucher" exists. What began as a harmless prank escalated into a bizarre conspiracy theory which called into question the moral integrity of the cast & crew of that classic SF series. The hoax has now been - IMHO - conclusively refuted but oddly some people continue to promote it. Consequently, this site remains as a permanent memorial to the stupidity and hypocrisy of the hoaxers."

I am aware that there are some allegedly "Lost" episodes of LOST IN SPACE. The ones I am aware of are:

"Secret of the Jupiter 2." A hoax that appeared in the first-ever LIS zine, "Lost in Space Review." I have no idea if the hoax predates the fanzine, or was invented by the editor, Bob Richards.

Basically, the episode involved a stowaway on board the Jupiter 2: he had been placed in suspended animation in a secret area of the ship, and was reawakened. He was a fugitive of some sort, and there was some sort of space battle with alioens that were looking for him. The episode was filmed and stored away, never to be seen or discussed. It's a complete hoax, of course.

"The Great Space Race." An episode, written but never filmed, which was a parody of the film "The Great Race." No one has seen the script for this, but the source is fairly reliable.

"Malice in Wonderspace/Willoughby." A script for a fourth season episode that was to use Willoughby the Llama, an actul llama that was used in the episode "The Great Vegetable Rebellion." Some shots were used with the llama, but it proved too ornery, and a human actor was used instead.

In this episode, Willoughby is a talking, purple telekinetic kangaroo with a power called ESQ. Despite the bleak sounding premise, the actual script reads pretty well.

"Carnival in Space." A title for an early draft of "The Great Vegetable Rebellion." This is actually superior to the script they actually filmed. An evil alien scientist wants to capture the Robinson's emotions.

The "Space Voucher" rumor had me going for a bit. Something this major in LIS fandon that I had not heard of? Impossible.

So I went to Dogpile, typed in "Space Voucher" and came up with an interesting result. "Space Voucher" is indeed the name of a LOST IN SPACE story-- a fan written LOST IN SPACE story. You can see the link here.

I contacted the story's author, Don Farnsworth. He gave me quite a bit of information. The "Space Voucher" myth had started in 1998 or thereabouts on the old Buffnet LIS mailing list. I had assumed that the rumor was based on the story. The exact opposite was true: Don had taken the rumor and had expanded the bits and pieces he had heard into a full-fledged story.

Going over Yahoo, I see that there is another group declaring that the Space Voucher Hoax is itself a hoax. To quote from the Space Voucher Hoax Discussion list site:

"Why, you ask? Because after being dismissed or ignored by legitimate LIS fans & discussion lists, it’s the only way this frustrated superhero of the idiot factory can sustain any interest in his viewpoints & opinions -- by spoofing innocent LIS fans into joining a group under the pretense that it’s a LIS discussion list, when it’s really nothing more than a megalomaniac soapbox built falsely on the Lost in Space name. Consequently, this site remains as a permanent memorial to the stupidity & hypocrisy of the true hoaxer. To lighten the mood while we wait for the real hoaxer to come to his senses (heh, like THAT’S going to happen), just think about how stupid the whole thing really is. This site is dedicated to true free speech, fair play & the right to believe in something & not be badgered to death about it by someone who needs a real life."

Yet a third "Space Voucher discussion list has cropped up. Look here.

Quoting from the page:

"This controversial episode was supposedly broadcast only once (either intentionally for who-knows-what reasons – or by accident) on cable (USA Network) sometime in the late 80s or early 90s (exact year has never been clear either), making Space Voucher something of an urban legend: the Big Foot of the Lost in Space universe!"

There was apparently another Space Voucher group, but that is no longer on Yahoo. Apparently there was a lot more to the story. I suspect that the entire argument is a hoax. No matter what, it's not even an interesting rumor. It's more of a pissing contest.
